2012 - The Green Light Laser - $160,000

The GL Laser is used to reduce an enlarged prostate. Formerly the  patient would have two or three inpatient days, a risk of bleeding,  possibly requiring a blood transfusion, and longer recovery time. The GL Laser vaporizes the tissue so no risk of bleeding, and there is less risk of subsequent nerve damage as well as no days in acute care.

Wendy Newson and Alix Kite brought the newly purchased Green Light Laser to show  us at the Auxiliary Meeting. It certainly seems like $160,000.00 well spent! The benefits to the patients  will be the overwhelming evidence in the long term.

The GL Laser means that we will be able to treat people quicker, likely up to five patients per day and no acute care beds needed. This will be a more cost effective procedure and will reduce wait times for patients.
